Masakhane Women’s Club

Georgina Skota (“Mama G”) believes that a person can still “come out on top of things” even if they have only a little. It just depends on how they use it. So every month, the Masakhane women meet to pray, sing and discuss important issues. And they give R100 each to a savings account which, at the end of the year, is shared out “to bring joy and happiness”. The first six members two years ago have swelled to 40, as more women see what can be done with a little money and a lot of care. “We have grown closer as we have helped each other and we learn from each other,” says Georgina, who works as a guide at the Owl House. “It’s important that visitors from overseas see that we, as free South Africans, are confident that we have a future in our democratic country. We are free now to do what we will – and we will build a future.” Phone: 049 – 841 1653.
