Iets Uit Niks

Piet Jacobs spent his entire working life mending, welding, fixing, and building on farms in the district. Now retired, he spends his time collecting discarded scraps of twine from lucerne bales to make handbrooms; pieces of wire which he fashions into braai grids; wheel rims which become braai stands; and tins which make convenient mugs once he has attached a handle. He also restores electrical items that have been thrown away. “Only now no-one throws them away,” he says, “they bring them to me to fix!” For Piet, the best part is working with material that used to mean nothing and turning it into something. Find him and his work at the end of Hudson Street, behind the corner house with the hedge. Phone: 049 – 841 1670.
